Naming ceremonies

Welcome. What a lovely thing to think about doing for your child or children - to actually 'give' them their name.  Especially as your name is almost always the first thing people know about you so it really is quite special.

Although similar to a christening, a Baby Naming Ceremony, is mostly a non-religious ceremony with the main focus being the child, their family and friends, and the personal commitments the parents and others wish to make to them.

More and more parents want their children to make their own religious choices later in their lives. A Naming or Welcoming ceremony enables parents to celebrate their child´s arrival while inviting family and friends to play an important part in the child’s future development. They are unique to each family.

You may have recently become a parent or step-parent or perhaps you have adopted a child and want to celebrate this special event. During the baby naming ceremony, parents and others declare their commitment and love to the new family member. They often write heartfelt promises and give gifts as symbols of their love and commitment.  Other children can be included in the ceremony should you want this.  Whatever the reason, a Baby Naming or Welcoming ceremony is a very special way to welcome your new family member.

An adult may choose to change their name.  A celebration to share their new name or identity with friends and family is a wonderful way of marking this important moment in their life. There are no legal constraints to the choice of where you want to hold your ceremony.  Click here to find out about symbolic elements
